Pulse Pressure Variation - PPV
PPV - SVV - SPV – DPV should be considered to decide the fluid therapy.
SVV and PPV evaluate of the fluctuation of cardiac flow, typically related to the respiratory cycle. Such variations are a well-known index of cardiac preload and allow to evaluate the volemic conditions of the patient and the effects of mechanical ventilation.
With MostCare, the measure of variations can be evaluated on a user-defined time window (10 to 30 seconds) according to the ventilation frequency.
Moreover such parameters, when transferred to a PC, can be used to evaluate arterial elastance and venous capacitance, according to the definition by Pinsky M.R. et al.
When patients:
- Needs to have a CO increase
- Is mechanically ventilated (>8ml/kg)
- Doesn’t have arrithmias
- Arterial pressure signal is good
PPV > 12-13% was shown to predict fluid responsiveness in ARDS patients
The parameter has been validated in septics, cardiac, general critically ill patients
